Degassifiers

OVERVIEW

Degassifiers use a process of counter flow, forced draft to remove gaseous solutes from treatment plant processed water. The process effluent water is distributed over plastic packing media by means of spray nozzles or a v-notched weir system. The water is distributed in conjunction with air blowing upwards, counter-currently.

Design factors which are the most important in a successful ‘packed tower aerator’ design start by identifying the type of solute needed to be removed, its concentration and expected stripping performance, the air to water ratio (by volume), packing surface area, allowable tower diameter and bed height.

Decarbonators

The most common type of degassifier is a decarbonator. The system works to remove carbon compounds from process water. The process water transfers carbon into the air, cleaning the water.
